Traditie

The colorful traditional clothing dates back to the late middle ages. In the course of history much has changed, our traditional clothing is sensitive to the fashion of its day.

On the 'Queens day' the children of Marken are dressed in orange skirts, colourfull ‘borsikken’ and richly woven aprons. Little caps are worn with embroidered strings which are tied under the chin, and displayed with the initials of the child.

Nowadays, it gets harder and harder to see traditional clothing in the streets of Marken. The guides that provide the tour through Marken will wear the original clothing.
